Physics: I’m really glad I’m continuing my physics major along with computer science. The physics program here is considerably smaller than the computer science program which makes being a physics major a lot more personal. As doing the homework by yourself is a fairly futile task a group of us get together every other day or so to work on it together. The physics classes I’m taking this semester are notoriously difficult, and it didn’t take long for me to discover why this semester. I’m only taking 12 credit hours yet I’m still kept quite busy. It’s frustrating at times but stapling together the 15 or so page weekly homework assignment that still took me 12 hours to do with a group of people is always a great feeling.
Job searching: As I’m not going to graduate until May 2009 it’s more like Summer 2008 internship searching at this point. I went to a career fair, handed out my resume to 15ish companies while honing and polishing the same conversation about myself over and over again with their representatives. National Instruments called me back for an interview which surprised me with about 20 minutes of technical questions. I should hear back about that soon. Vanguard also called me back for an interview, which went better than the NI one, and in fact I’m heading to Charlotte today because they called me back the next day after the interview to ask if I could come down for another full day of interviews at their headquarters in Charlotte this Monday. I don’t know how much I would want to work for a company that surrounds mutual funds (ack! sorry Dad!) butttttt I figured I should go for the practice and just to keep my options open.
Went down to Franklin Street for Halloween with 2 Japanese foreign exchange student friends (1 from Sophia, actually) and Chris and Geoff. Don’t worryyy, my costume was more impressive (although still not particularly) with the lights off as I’ve got like 8 glow sticks on me and 4 other blinking lights that I was scrounging around for at the last minute at Wal Mart.
